Some English translations of some Norwegian conversations I have had recently.<\/p>\n
Cashier: Would you like a receipt?
\nMe: You\u2019re welcome<\/p>\n
Boss: What color is a warning triangle?
\nMe: What is a warning triangle?
\nBoss: You know when you get a tire puncture, and you have to pull over on the side of the road\u2026
\nMe: What is a tire puncture?<\/p>\n
Coworker: What color is a Dalmatian when it is born?
\nBoss: Mike, do you know what \u201cborn\u201d means?
\nMe: What is \u201cborn?\u201d Not \u201cfoot?\u201d (The actual word, f\u00f8dt, sounds a bit like the English word \u201cfoot\u201d)
\nMy boss and coworker try various ways of explaining until one of them says the Norwegian word for \u201cbirthday\u201d, and then I get it.<\/p>\n
Cashier: Would you like some jam with your waffle?
\nMe: We would like to sit outside, please.
\nCashier: *holds up jam* Jam?
\nMe: Oh! Jam! Yes please.<\/p>\n
Pharmacist: Hi, how can I help you?
\nMe: I like you that. *points to Jigglypuff tattoo*
\n*awkward laughter as pharmacist looks up the prescription*
\nPharmacist, in English: We don\u2019t have this one in stock.<\/p>\n
Teacher: What happened in the last episode?
\nMe: Jonas and Maria moved from Oslo to a new city. There was a cat. There was a washing machine on the cat. The cat was dead. Then they met their neighbors.<\/p>\n
Coworker: In \u201cThe Matrix\u201d, what color pill is taken to find out how deep the rabbit hole goes?
\nMe: In the Matrix, the pill\u2026 rabbit?
\nBoss: Mike, do you know what \u201crabbit\u201d means?
\nMe: Not the same as dog? (The Norwegian word for \u201crabbit\u201d is \u201ccanin\u201d)
\nBoss: No. (In English) Rabbit.
